Common questions
The camera screen is blank or black
Camera permission was probably denied. Open the phone's Settings, find Mail Alert, and allow Camera. Then reopen the app.
A resident says they didn't get an alert
Open Message Log on the main menu and search their name, email, or phone number. It shows every alert with its status: sent, opened (staff still had to tap Send in the mail/SMS app), cancelled at review, or failed with the reason. Also check their entry in Update Database — Email or SMS may be switched off for them.
Alerts aren't sending automatically
Automatic sending needs the SMTP details (email) or gateway account (SMS) filled in under Settings → Resident alerts. The free "Open mail app / Open SMS app" methods always need a Send tap — that's the phone, not the app. Also check whether Review before sending is on; if it is, someone has to tap Send on each preview.
The scanner misreads local names
Add corrections in Settings → Community — for example teach it that a commonly misread street name should map to the right one. Use zoom and the camera light for small print.
A backup file won't open on the other phone
Both phones need to be on a current version of Mail Alert — update both apps and try again. Backing up and syncing between store devices is done using high security encryption. The resident list can never be opened outside the app.
I forgot the staff PIN
Contact support below. The PIN protects the resident list on that phone only; scanning and alerting keep working.
