Common questions

What do I actually need?

A Smart TV that can mirror a phone or iPad, and that device. Coloured check tickets (write the order, tear it in half). The device can be the access point the TV joins — for example a personal hotspot — so you do not need a venue network. There is no extra server and no account.

The TV is black or does not show Meal Ready

The phone or iPad and the TV must be on the same network. That can be venue Wi‑Fi, or a hotspot from the device itself. On Apple devices open Control Centre → Screen Mirroring and pick the TV. For Chromecast or a Smart TV’s built-in mirror, start the mirror from the TV or Google Home the same way you would mirror Photos or Safari. Meal Ready does not talk to the TV itself — it is ordinary screen mirroring.

Tiles look small on the TV

Hold the device in landscape and leave Meal Ready full screen. Portrait Setup is for staff; the board is landscape so tiles fill the screen.

I cannot add a ticket

Tap the small + at the bottom right. If the add row is Keyboard, tap a letter, then two digits, then Go. If it is Counter, tap a book icon, set the number with − / +, then Go. Change the add-row style in Setup (gear, bottom left).

How do I take a ticket off the board?

Triple-tap the tile. A single tap only replays the zoom after a short wait.

The letter on the tile does not match our book

Open Setup and edit that colour’s letter, or add a new colour + letter pair. The app does not lock letters to colours. A J.Burrows 4-pack might be Blue A / Red B / Green C / Purple D; Olympic boxes from other makers often mix A–F on every colour. Use what is printed on your books.

Does Meal Ready need an account or the internet?

No account and no extra server. Tickets never leave the device. You only need a link between the device and the TV so the screen can be mirrored. The device can be the access point the TV joins.

The screen went to sleep

While Meal Ready is in front, the app asks the system to keep the screen awake. The hardware lock button still works. If you switch to another app, the device can sleep as usual. Plug in for a long service.

Important notice

Meal Ready is a collection display for food orders or any other service queue. It is not a point-of-sale, food-safety, or official ticketing system. Staff remain responsible for matching the two halves of the ticket before handing anything over.
